LAURA ANNE KAY

Laura Anne Kay (she/her/hers) is from Salem, Virginia, and has been dancing since she was three years old.  She trained in classical ballet, pointe, modern and contemporary styles, and jazz at the Star City School of Ballet in Roanoke, Virginia, under the direction of Pedro Szalay, up until high school graduation.  She attended summer programs at the Richmond Ballet, as well as the New Prague Dance Festival in Prague, Czech Republic.  After graduating, she attended the University of South Carolina on a dance scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography, with minors in English and Mass Communications.  She will graduate in May of 2025.  During her time at USC, her favorite performances have been Story/Time: Revisited with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, Belly of the Whale, choreographed by André Megerdichian, and Momento Mágico, choreographed by Miguel Solano of Complexions Contemporary Ballet. She has also had the pleasure of attending the American Dance Festival as an SDI student in 2023 and 2024 and worked with Pilobolus alumni Nile Russell and Matt del Rosario, as well as Monique Haley.  Laura Anne is interested in and excited by collaboration, building community through dance, and investigating how classical vocabulary might be dissected and expanded upon to create new, innovative movement pathways.  She is overwhelmed with gratitude for the art form of dance, for every person she’s made a connection with along the way, and for every incredible opportunity dance has given her to grow and learn.
